1912 - 1941

Muhammad
Moti

A traveler and pioneer from India.

During the mid-19th century, Muhammad Moti took the voyage by ship to South Africa. Establishing the family’s foothold on the Southernmost point of the African continent. Serving as a general trader dealing in basics and necessities.

Muhammad Moti is the first-generation patriarch to call South
Africa home 

1941 - 1970

Aboo Baker
Moti

A second-generation trader in Portgieterus.

Aboo Baker Moti formalised and added structure to the family’s operation by building the family and growing the business.

Aboo successfully built upon the vision of his father and demonstrated resilience to the new unfamiliar home that South Africa now was.

1970 - 1998

Abbas Aboo
Baker 
Moti

Traveller who found success and fortune.

Abbas travelled extensively throughout Southeast Asia, continuing the legacy of the family in general trading by further building upon this.

Having investments at the time in Australia and India and further improving upon the family’s wealth in the form of strategic and critical relationships in the Southern African region.

1998 - 2022

Zunaid
Moti

A young prodigy.

Zunaid began the process of formalising and establishing a base of operations on which to expand the family’s wealth. From success to success, Zunaid founded many revolutionary business models including the highly successful futurefin, before settling the vision and core trajectory of the business in the mining and mineral beneficiation space.

Starting what we colloquially refer to as the Moti Group in 1998.

Zunaid diversified and expanded on the family’s general trader history by pushing the group into new directions and exploring new and exciting markets including platinum group metals, lithium, and chromium. In addition, Zunaid started the family’s expansive property portfolio spanning the globe.

Mikaeel
Moti

A passion for business, and a drive to succeed.

From an early age Mikaeel’s dream was to become a successful entrepreneur and businessman. Mikaeel has been involved in the operations of the Moti Group companies since he was 16 years old.

Currently Mikaeel is involved in operations, financial planning and implementation of a number of assets under the Moti Group of Companies. Mikaeel is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the Kilken Imbani Joint Venture, a platinum tailings treatment facility located at the Anglo Platinum Amandelbult Mine.

Other assets under his purview include motor fleet, aviation, insurance, security, treasury and other sundry functions in management of the day-to-day operations of the Moti Group.

From 2022

Dondo
Mogajane

A true leader from an early age.

Even before Mr Mogajane, known as Dondo, entered the formal job market, he was a student leader at High School, and at the University of Durban Westville, where he earned a B Admin degree, and an Honours Degree in Public Management in 1991. He went on to complete an Honours degree in Industrial relations while working at the university.

Dondo has extensive experience working in a multitude of roles, namely Deputy Director of the Department of Finance (now known as the National Treasury), Deputy Director of Finance Operations & HR Management of the Environmental and Development Agency, and Director of the National Treasury. In his 21 years at the National Treasury, he worked in various capacities, including Chief Director, Senior Advisor to the World Bank in Washington, Chief of Staff, and Head of Ministry.

In 2014, Dondo completed a Master’s Degree in Public Management from the University of Maryland. After which, he was appointed as the Acting Chief Operations Officer of the National Treasury, and then as Deputy Director-General in 2015. He was appointed acting Director General for a period of 5 years after that. Dondo chose not to extend his contract in the South African public service and instead joined the Moti Group as its Chief Executive Officer.

In addition to his duties as CEO, Dondo is also serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the New Development Bank (BRICS Bank) and; Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Government Employees Pension Fund.
